1. With regard to the choice of name, as a result of the process of acculturation, there was a tendency especially among Greeks living abroad, for example in the United States, to use those first names or patronymics that were easiest to pronounce or write.

En ce qui concerne le choix de ce nom, par suite du processus d’acculturation, on observe une tendance à retenir des prénoms ou noms patronymiques plus faciles à prononcer ou à écrire, plus particulièrement chez les Grecs qui vivent à l’étranger, par exemple aux États-Unis.

2. The Act also reaffirms the right of any abandoned child or any child whose parentage is unknown to a patronymic family name, thereby enabling that child to obtain any official documents and certificates and avoid the embarrassment and other discrimination associated with the absence of a family name.

La loi réaffirme, en même temps, le droit de tout enfant abandonné ou de filiation inconnue à un nom patronymique de façon à lui permettre de bénéficier de toutes sortes de pièces et de documents officiels et d’éviter ainsi les embarras et autres facteurs de discrimination liés à l’inexistence d’un nom.
